Pre-Work Activities

All pre-work activities must be completed prior to the first learning session.

You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader to view many of these materials. Download and install it for free.

Orientation Session

The Orientation Session welcomes participants to the collaborative, describes the history of Project BEST, informs on the timeline of the training, and communicates requirements to roster as a professional. The first Learning Session follows the Orientation Session. Below are links to sample Orientation Manual and Slide deck.

Learning Sessions

RRFT Learning Sessions are designed to be active, engaging, and focused on helping clinicians apply the model in practice. Sessions include instruction, discussion, skills practice, case-based learning, and opportunities for participants to strengthen their ability to implement RRFT with adolescents and families.

Attendance and active participation in all required Learning Sessions are expected as part of the RRFT Learning Collaborative. Participants will also implement RRFT with appropriate cases, participate in ongoing consultation, and complete required implementation activities throughout the training period.

Learning Session 1

The first Learning Session provides foundational training in the RRFT model and builds on the required pre-work and orientation activities completed before the Learning Collaborative. Participants are introduced to the RRFT treatment approach, core clinical components, and strategies for applying the model with adolescents and their caregivers. The session also includes opportunities for discussion, skills practice, and preparation for beginning RRFT cases during the implementation period.

A sample agenda and Learning Session materials will be provided as they become available.

Learning Session 2

The second Learning Session builds on participants’ initial experience implementing RRFT and provides more advanced training, consultation, and skills development. The session is designed to address challenges that arise during the first implementation period, strengthen clinical application of the RRFT model, and provide opportunities for participants to discuss cases, practice skills, and refine treatment strategies.

A sample agenda and Learning Session materials will be provided as they become available.

Assessments

his page contains the assessments and forms required for RRFT training cases. Participants will receive instructions for completing and submitting required assessments as part of the Learning Collaborative.

Assessments are completed at designated points during treatment to support clinical implementation, track client progress, and meet RRFT Learning Collaborative requirements. Clinicians should ensure that all required assessment information for their training cases is submitted according to the timelines and procedures provided by Project BEST.

Registering & Completing a RRFT Training Case

Getting Started: Registering a Training Case

RRFT training cases should be registered through the designated Project BEST REDCap system according to the instructions provided during the Learning Collaborative. Each registered case should be tracked using the client and clinician identifiers required within REDCap.

Registered clients do not always complete treatment. Therefore, clinicians are strongly encouraged to identify and register at least five appropriate RRFT training cases during the implementation period to help ensure that they successfully complete the required cases.

Clinicians are required to complete at least two RRFT training cases to be eligible for certification.

Administering and Submitting Assessments

Participants will use the RRFT assessment materials provided by Project BEST when administering measures with adolescents and their caregivers. Required forms and assessment measures should be completed and entered into REDCap according to the timelines and procedures provided during the Learning Collaborative.

Assessments are used to support treatment planning, monitor symptoms and risk behaviors, evaluate progress, and document clinical outcomes.

The RRFT Assessment Toolkit, assessment forms, and instructions for administration and submission will be provided to participating clinicians through Project BEST and the RRFT Learning Collaborative.

Completing A Case

Adolescents and their caregivers complete required pre- and post-treatment assessments to help clinicians evaluate presenting concerns and changes over the course of RRFT.

Pre-treatment measures should be completed as early as possible to support treatment planning and determine whether RRFT is appropriate for the adolescent and family. Clinicians will re-administer the required measures at the end of treatment and complete all required case documentation according to Project BEST procedures.

To complete the RRFT Learning Collaborative certification requirements, clinicians must successfully complete at least two RRFT training cases.

Closing A Case

When a registered RRFT training case ends, clinicians should complete the required case-closing or treatment-exit documentation in REDCap according to Project BEST procedures.

Case-closing documentation should be completed for all registered cases, including adolescents who successfully complete RRFT as well as those whose treatment ends early, who relocate, who discontinue services, or whose case closes for another reason.

Assessment Downloads & Helpful Hints

RRFT assessment measures and administration instructions will be provided through the RRFT Assessment Toolkit, REDCap assessment system, and Learning Collaborative training materials.

The assessment battery includes measures designed to evaluate areas relevant to RRFT, including trauma exposure and posttraumatic stress symptoms, mood, substance use, and other health-risk concerns.
